Students at Grapevine Middle School learned about what it takes to be a rocket scientist from a NASA engineer himself, Bob Lashbrook. Lashbrook served as an engineer on several projects including the Gemini projects and all of the Apollo projects. These projects allowed him to work with several astronauts including Neil Armstrong, first man on the moon, and Jim Lovell, commander of Apollo 13. Following the close of the Apollo program, Lashbrook worked as a consultant on the robotic arm used to build the International Space Station.

“I asked him to come speak to my students in order for them to get a historical perspective of the significance of the manned space program,” said Robert Lashbrook, eighth grade science teacher and son of Bob Lashbrook. “But more importantly, for my students to be exposed to the many interesting employment opportunities in the fields of engineering and science, and that science can be an exciting adventure; an opportunity to change the world.”
