Parents, students participate in third annual Literacy Symposium
On September 19, GCISD partnered with Reaching, Educating, Advocating for Dyslexics (READ) to host its third annual Literacy Symposium. At the event, parents attended break-out classes, where they learned about a variety of tools and tips to help their students. These resources are designed to help students be more successful in their everyday learning, as well as their management of dyslexia, at school and at home.
“While students receive instruction by teachers from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily, they receive support and instruction from their parents from 3 p.m. until bedtime,” said Dr. Suzanne Newell, GCISD director of humanities. “It was our hope that the Symposium could help equip parents with the tools to feel more successful at helping their students at home.”
